It has been a long time since the last update on my mum’s condition. The last few check-ups are okay and the doctors were really pleased. However, there is always this fear at the back of our minds that cancer could rear its ugly head anytime.

I know that my mum’s CA-125 result is good ranging from 12-14 but it always bother me because it did not go under 10. Mum had a slight cold a few weeks ago and we went on high alert as before my mum’s diagnosis of cancer, she had a nasty cough for 2 months. Fortunately, it was a false alarm as it was…..just a cold. And when mum complained of being tired – we got alarmed because she was always very tired during the time she had cancer. And the list of alarms goes on and on.

Hopefully, this fear would subside at the end of the month after my mum’s CT scan which would determine whether the ‘thickening’ in the last CT scan is scar or cancer.

Sometimes, I wonder, whether too much knowledge on ovarian cancer is a good thing or not. While it could help the patient to make an informed decision, it could also create a sense of fear in you. We call ovarian cancer a whispering disease but sometimes we try to listen too hard for the whispers where there are no whispers.

  1. Hi there! Sry for the late reply as i just saw ur comments in one of my older entries.

That’s great news on ur mum’s condition! If she is receiving treatment from NCC and wants to join a suppport group, she can get in touch with the self-help group there for O&G. Just look for SSN Tan.

    Hope that helps
