One of my friends at New Jersey finally e-mailed me after disappearing for months. I first knew her when I bought vintage compacts from her at ebay. As I bought more and more compacts with her, we became friends eventually. Unfortunately, she seemed to be in a difficult position as she wanted a divorce from her abusive husband. She had been putting up with abuse for years for the sake of her autistic son and the fact that her husband is a sole breadwinner.  The final straw came when her husband threatened to kill her and her autistic son. By this time, she had a thriving online business selling compacts and personalzed quilts and no longer dependent on her husband for money.

Unfortunately, my friend’s husband managed to get hold of a lawyer and threatened to fight for the custody for their autistic son. This is totally out of spite because my friend’s husband hardly lift a finger to look after their son and suddenly he is a doting father? It totally broke my friend’s heart at the prospect of losing the custody to her husband. And she was so afraid of the well-being of her son.

Fortunately for my friend, she managed to get hold of a good lawyer who is willing to take her case with my friend’s limited budget. Later, she learnt that the lawyer specialized in divorce and fighting for custody. My friend told me that she was lucky to be introduced to a reliable lawyer who had a good track record as there were so many cases where the lawyers really messed things up. For my friend, there is a happy ending. She got a good lawyer with her limited budget and managed to get the sole custody of her autistic son. I wish that her husband – now her ex-husband would stay away from her and her son.
